Our client is a values-based company, deeply rooted in science and innovation. They are looking for a Project Consultant to be based in St. Albans, UK. This role is responsible for identifying, deploying, and governing Chemical information technologies supporting product development processes. Additionally, the Project Consultant oversees technology initiatives, strategic vendor interactions, and manages activities associated with R&D plant operations.

This role a is fully on site, 10-month temporary contract to start ASAP.

Key Responsibilities

Main Duties:

IT Resources & Project Management:

  • Organize, Track, Coordinate, and Report on IT project activity, progress, and resource allocation.
  • Facilitate resource planning and lead allocation meetings.
  • Recommend and implement streamlined IT PMO processes and best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership and insight to the IT PMO.
  • Deliver professional project management expertise to the IT team.
  • Build relationships with senior leaders, interact with Senior Management, and deliver presentations as required.
  • Proactively identify and address risks and issues on programs/projects.
  • Assist with business case development and justification.
  • Assess, record, and mitigate risks/dependencies against project deliverables.

R&D Unit Setup

  • Oversee schedules, supplies, materials, equipment, and manpower requirements in the pilot plant.
  • Provide technical leadership in process development, validation, and equipment validation.
  • Lead technology transfer projects to ensure timely scale-up and product launch.
  • Establish and maintain tracking systems for product critical parameters.
  • Prepare technical summaries, process development/validation reports, and compliant documentation.
  • Contribute to technical submissions as required.
  • Develop and implement equipment qualification activities in the pilot plant.
  • Ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
  • Influence product formulation/process to optimize facility equipment use.
  • Provide performance feedback, development, and coaching to direct reports.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational plans.

Qualifications and Person Specifications

  • MA or PhD in IT, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in technology evaluation, deployment, and project management.
  • 10+ years management experience in the Chemical and/or Materials industry, preferably with Technical Development and R&D Project Implementation experience.
  • 5+ years of professional IT experience in multiple technical and business domains.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills, ability to identify and resolve issues, and escalate as needed.
  • IT and business knowledge to manage IT delivery processes end-to-end.
  • Ability to bridge functional requirements with IT solution components.
  • Understanding of system validation and change control processes.
  • Project Management Professional certification preferred.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, specifically in Research and Quality.
